COMPLEX NETWORKS.
This course will take you
amidst some of the exciting recent research on large networked systems.
The
internet is now seeing
the emergence
of very complex network based systems such
as social netwoks, peer to peer
systems, large scale games each will unprecedented participation, scale
and
complexity. Even WikiLeak's servers use small world network routing to
avoid traceability!
In
the course we will learn about the
various analytical tools/frameworks computer scientists have
begun to apply to understand these systems both at micro and macro
levels and even to engineer a new breed of solutions and applications.
We
will learn about famous experiments such Six Degrees of Seperation
(checkout the youtube video CONNECTED). For
introductory reading of the topic feel to read this Scentific
American article.
This
line
of research is expected
to shape many aspect of our world- how we use internet, how
individuals, countries,
corporations and armies act.
