Students who are interested pursuing research in networks (architecture, infrastructure, protocols, and applications) are expected to have sufficient knowledge in the following areas.

• At least two of the following courses:
  • CS 55201: Computer Communication Networks
  • CS 75202: Advanced Computer Communication Networks
  • CS 75201: Interconnection Networks
  • CS 75203: Wireless and Mobile Communications Networks
  • CS 75301: System Model and Perf Eval
• Being familiar with one of the following simulation packages
• Strong programming background in large projects.
• NS Simulator, available on mars.cs.kent.edu
• OPNET, available on jupiter.cs.kent.edu
• Scalable Simulation Framework (SSF)
• JavaSim
• Having senior/graduate level knowledge in at least one following courses:
• Probability and statistics
• Stochastic processing
• Queuing theory

While the above are not prerequisites, they facilitate the research progress significantly in the area of networking.
