KSU Computer Science Department
2008 Annual Open House, Poster Conference, and Awards Ceremony

The KSU CS Department will hold its annual Open House on Friday 11 April 2008, in the Math & CS Building. This year the event will include an Industry Speaker, a Career Fair, a Student Recognition Ceremony, a Poster Conference, and Research Laboratory tours.

Career Fair - 9:30am - 11:00am, various rooms through-out MSB

Several regional companies will be on campus to discuss career options with students. Details on the career fair, including a list of participating companies, are available using the links in the left-side menu of this page.

Industry Speaker - 1:00-2:00pm, MSB 228

- Ann Womer Benjamin, Executive Director of NOCHE, the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education.

Title: Bringing Business and Higher Education Together

Abstract: There are thousands of open IT jobs in Northeast Ohio – more than all of the students currently enrolled in information technology or computer science programs in the region could fill, as reported in a recently released NorTech study. Yet the same report claims these students and recent graduates are struggling to find employment because they do not have enough experience. The solution? Experiential learning. Ann Womer Benjamin, Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education, will discuss how experiential learning, specifically internships, brings business and higher education together, focusing on specific learning opportunities in Northeast Ohio.

Student Recognition Ceremony - 2:00-2:30pm, M&CS Library - 3rd floor MSB

Dr. John West, Vice President and Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, will provide opening remarks for the annual student recognition ceremony, which highlights achievements of our undergraduate and graduate students

Poster Conference - 2:30-3:30, 1st floor classrooms

Research Posters on various topics will be presented by undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. Awards will be given in three categories:

  • Best Poster - Presentation and Organization
  • Best Poster - Scientific Advancement
  • Best Poster - Business or Industrial Focus

Department faculty and students interested in preparing a poster should see the Call For Posters and the Resource section of that page, including How to Prepare a Poster and How to Print a Poster.

Laboratory Tours - 3:30 - 5:00pm

Many of the department research labs will be available for visits. Overviews of the labs can be found on the Department Research Lab Webpages
