Colloquium Series Schedule

The Department of Computer Science Colloquium Series is generally scheduled for 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays or Fridays, in the Math & Computer Science Building, Room 228. Directions to our building are available.

The Department of Computer Science maintains a mailing list for colloquia announcements. If you are interested in receiving emails when a colloquium is scheduled, please subscribe to the CS Colloquium Mailing List. You may unsubscribe at any time.

Colloquium for Wednesday, April 12, 2006
Speaker: Prof. Wayne Wolf, , Princeton University, Princeton, NJ

Title: Distributed Smart Cameras: Algorithms and Architectures

Abstract: Smart cameras use processors to analyze video in real time. They can be used for tasks such as gesture recognition and tracking and in applications such as law enforcement, medicine, and entertainment. This talk will cover algorithmic and architectural aspects of smart cameras studied by the Embedded Systems Group at Princeton. We will first consider single-camera systems, including both algorithms and architectures. We will then consider distributed smart cameras, which operate on multiple video streams using distributed computing techniques.

Biography: Wayne Wolf is professor of electrical engineering at Princeton University. Before joining Princeton in 1989, he was with AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1980, 1981, and 1984, respectively. His research interests include embedded computing, VLSI systems, and multimedia information systems. He is the author of Computers as Components, FPGA-Based System Design, and Modern VLSI Design (for which he won the ASEE Frederick E. Terman Award). Wolf has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and ACM, an IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Member, and a member of the SPIE and ASEE.
