Born to a conservative, middle-class, Gujarati family in Mumbai, lived there through high school and associates degree. Moved to Pune for college, briefly worked close to Delhi (Gurgaon) prior to coming to the US for grad school. Except for a brief and lovely time in Rochester, MN - have lived in the bay area since 2004.

My 94-year paternal grandfather lives on with graceful degradation (painful to watch though). My near retirement parents are also caregivers to him, making their retirement a bit resentful. My brother, Apurva, his wife, Gauri and their two sons live with the extended family (rare even in India). I lost my maternal grandparents in 04 and 07; and Mansi in 07 as well. Her family lives in Mumbai as well.

While in MN, got married to Yachna - met in Kent '02, re-connected during a personal tragedy in '06. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic before completing a glaucoma fellowship at Stanford. Hemali was born in 2013 and is easily the center of our universe.

I'm somewhat workaholic, a lot more lazy, and very interested in solving common business problems that face us. In my personal life, I like watching YouTube, renting movies, seeing places, lately riding bikes. More recently, when we were forced to work from home, I fell in love with cooking, ayurveda & yoga.

My most recent adventures with health are best documented on my blog.

Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy,
you must have somebody to divide it with.
--- Mark Twain (on marriage)
