Infinite becomes Finite

- Yamuna Harshavardhana

Many a time we wonder ‘Whence we came??and ‘Why are we here??These questions have awed mankind from the beginning of time and still continue to. In quest of answers to these questions, man has sake the path of science, religion and spirituality. The latter two have given answers to many a question but are non-empirical in nature, as they cannot be proven by laboratory methods. Science has advanced and several theories have been put forth, yet the crux of the question is far from being touched upon.

There was a time when everything was in the Absolute Almighty God and there was no good nor evil, no right nor wrong. But then, a time came when consciousness distinguished itself from God. And when consciousness became less and less absolute, and more and more gross, it emanated as Light, the first of all creation, which is seen as nothing but pure energy. It then distinguished itself from Darkness. Light signifies day and Darkness signifies night ?they are also interpreted as GOOD and EVIL.

Then this energy took the form of matter, and the earth and seas were made. This is what science states ?energy and matter are interchangeable.

And then, energy and matter together took on the forms of fish, birds and animals. These signify life forms and these have both matter and energy, and life cannot exist without either of them. The body is matter, the capacity to do work is energy and Life itself is pure consciousness or God.

Finally, the highest life form on earth ?man ?was made. The two beings ?Adam and Eve ?were the first humans that walked the earth.

Adam and Eve distinguished themselves from God, yet they were pure and could scarce distinguish themselves from one another. They were child-like and did not know the difference between good and evil. By the Ordain of the Lord they did not stray from this state for a long time. Thus they were infinitely happy.

But consciousness grew grosser and spread its influence over Adam and Eve too, and the pure souls succumbed to it. They yielded to temptation and partook of a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and their awareness of being different from each other grew. They now had the capability to distinguish between things and acts and classify them as GOOD and EVIL according to their perception. This deprived them of their blissful state and the peace that came with it. Having lost the gift of immortality, they moved from the infinite state to the finite state.

Adam and Eve had no contentment and had to live life in difficulty. They had to toil in the land and beget children and raise a family and clothe themselves for shame and to protect themselves from the vagaries of the weather. Their children had to undergo difficulties in life just as they did themselves. The only way out, was to find ways to recognize each other and themselves as children of God, in order to reach the state of Bliss.

This is the Ordain of the Lord.
