Mary can build stonehenge in 6 years while Sam can do it in 8. How long does it take them to build stonehenge together?
This problem uses the following equation
rate X time = effort
The effort and times are given for two individuals and we are asked
to determine the time for a combined effort. The key to this problem is to
realize that the effort is the same in all cases. It consists of
building one stonehenge.
In addition, a sum equation is required. That is, Mary's rate and
Sam's rate must be added to get the combined rate.
Thus a two dimensional chart is needed to accommodate
all of the facts.
