Relational Number Problems

The last form of the relational equation includes a "number" component which records the number of similar items. This form allow a more compact table since identical entities can be entered in one row instead of a seperate row for each one. This form is useful for programming.

Example 12: The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 26 feet. The sides are seven feet longer than half of the base. Determine the length of all three sides.

This problem results in three row entries, one for each side. The number, factor and term relational formula can be used. Since the sides of an isosles triangle are identical, only one row for them is needed with the number value set to 2.
