If the description has no adjectives, i.e.just a column name, it selects all of the items in the column. If the same column name is used to label columns in more than one table, all column items in all tables are selected. Since many items are selected, the noun is plural and the Anglish plural marker '$' must be used, i.e. the object$.

A description with adjectives is formed by specifying a sequence of values associated with the object in the table. For example, "the big block" selects the first row in the table. Note that the entire row is selected. Thus descriptive expressions allow inqueries of the form "What is the color of the big block?" to be answered by selecting a row and then extracting the associated requested information.
