IBM 1401

IBM 1401 Computer Operator Control Panel

The IBM 1401 was announced in October, 1959 and first shipped in 1960. It was relatively small and inexpensive (about $2500./month) and an important precursor to System 360.

Below is a small system configuration. 1401 was small enough that it was often used as an input processor for larger mainframes.
