System 370 Model 303X

IBM System 370 Model 303X Operator Console, or 3036

This page is under construction.

The 3036 is the model designation for a console unit that attached to the very large System 370 Models 3031, 3032, and 3033 computer complexes. The 3036 console unit had two 3270 style terminals (with extra keys) and this control head, where the TOD (Time of Day) and EPO (Emergency Power Off) switches were, among other things.

Here is a picture with the "secret hatches" open. Inside the left hatch are two diagnostic pads with LED indicators. A tag on the inside indicates the unit was built in August, 1979.

Below is an entire System 370 Model 3033 computer complex, clearly showing why The Gallery of Old Iron only keeps a few 3036 control heads. These machines were big! In the photo, there are two 3036 console units (one foreground, one partially visible left center).
