Data Mining - A Survey With Modern Applications
Andrew Knotts
(Masters Student Presentation)
High-speed Internet connections and the increasing integration of
computers in society have made data mining important and useful in
modern computing. I will first present a brief survey of data
mining. The topics covered in this survey will include the degree of
structure in data sources and techniques used to retrieve relevant
data in Information Retrieval Systems.
Opinion mining and Blog mining are two modern applications of data
mining. I will first introduce both concepts, and then compare and
contrast two approaches to retrieving opinionated blogs proposed at
the 2006 TREC Blog track: "The BlogVox Opinion Retrieval System" and
"Blog Mining through Opinionated Words".
